The mission of the Unzner Child Advocacy Center is to advocate for children and provide a safe and child friendly environment for forensic interviews and medical exams. The Unzner Center coordinates the Pottawatomie County Multidisciplinary Team to ensure collaboration and cooperation between the different agencies to help facilitate the best investigations possible. The Unzner Center seeks to minimize trauma to child victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse, or neglect and prevent children from suffering additional trauma during the investigatory process.
Today, Children’s Advocacy Centers across the nation provide a child friendly environment where all agencies now come to the child. The child is interviewed once by a trained forensic interviewer, and all agency partners involved work together as a team to coordinate their investigations and services for the child and their non-offending family members through the Children’s Advocacy Center.

A forensic interview is an interview that is recorded while it is being conducted. The main objective of a forensic interview is to reduce the amount of trauma to a child from abuse or neglect by limiting the amount of times the child needs to be interviewed.
The Unzner CAC provides referral services to mental health professionals who can provide counseling services to those children and families that wish to use it. Referrals can also be made for medical, social services, and other mental health needs.
A sexual assault medical forensic examination (SANE) is performed by specially trained medical professionals for the purpose of evaluation and treatment of trauma, treatment of possible exposure to infection, a referral for follow-up medical care, and for the collection of evidence following a report of assault by a victim. The Unzner Centre currently has two RNs on staff who perform these exams.
